Q: What kind of insurance do I have for a rental car?
A:
  • Business car compulsory insurance, with the insurance coverage is as follows: (the actual claims and amounts from the insurance company shall prevail)
  • 1. Medical claim for injuries: Up to NT$200 thousand per person.
  • 2. Disability claim: Up to NT$ 2 million per person.
  • 3. Death claim: Up to NT$2 million per person.
  • 4. There is no upper claim limit for each accident.
  • #The scope of the insurance coverage does not cover the driver’s body injury, disability or death from a single-car accident.
  • # The scope of this insurance coverage does not cover the driver of the car.

Q: Do I need to buy car body insurance?
A:
  • Limited car body damage insurance for a car-to-car collision: During the period covered, if the car is covered by a limited car body damage insurance for a car-to-car collision, Party B will not need to pay the cost of repair, but for the amount exceeding the insured amount or matters beyond the insurance claim, Party B is responsible for full compensation for the damage and repair.

  • Be entitled to subrogation services for dealing with the accident, and avoid accident-related litigation.

  • In the event of a breach of contract or any of the following circumstances, Party B still needs to be responsible for all the resulting losses.
  • 1. The damage is intentionally caused or instigated by the lessee or the driver.
  • 2. The damage is caused by the lessee or the driver due to drinking or taking contraband (illegal drugs) while driving the rental car.
  • 3. The damage is caused by the lessee or the driver due to engagement in crime or crime instigation or evading legal arrest.
  • 4. The damage is caused by the lessee or the driver due to violation of the Republic of China (Taiwan) traffic regulations or not following the traffic signal (sign), or failure to pay attention while driving.
  • 5. The lessee or the driver drives off or escapes after the accident which causes the damage or destruction.
  • 6. The car damage or destruction is caused by a collision of an unidentified vehicle or object.
  • 7. The car damage or destruction is caused by an unidentified scratch or other unknown reasons.
  • 8. The car damage or destruction is caused by the intentional or negligent infringement of a third party.
  • 9. The car damage or destruction is caused by a natural disaster (such as a typhoon, earthquake, flood, etc.).
  • 10. The insurance company refuses the insurance claim.
  • This car body damage insurance is limited to a car-to-car collision, and the policy holder enjoys the subrogation services from the insurance company. The scope of the claim is limited to the repair of car damage from an accident, and does not cover the destruction, depreciation, loss of business or third-party damage compensation stated in the car rental contract.

Q: Can I buy full car body insurance?
A:
  • In Taiwan, insurance companies do not offer full car body insurance for short-term leased cars, and it is rather expensive in other countries as well.
  • If you need higher insurance coverage, you may consult your country's insurance companies, some of which offer overseas travel self-driving insurance. This kind of insurance is mainly for loss of property, and does not cover personal injury. For a self-driving tour, you need to buy an extra insurance policy for any extra spending on property damage. You also need to know what documents and insurance contents are required for an insurance claim.
